Purpose
Protect the meaning of epic.
“Epic” gets thrown around easily. The Search for Epic exists to keep asking what actually earns the word in ultrarunning — not through hype, popularity, polished marketing, or a single result, but through the deeper qualities that make certain races, runners, people, and experiences stay with us.
We are not here to hand out the word. We are here to keep investigating what deserves it.
Mission
Discover it. Document it. Share what earns it.
The Search for Epic exists to discover, document, and surface the races, runners, race directors, crews, pacers, volunteers, families, communities, stories, and experiences that reveal something meaningful about ultrarunning.
The miles are the entry point. The story underneath the miles is where the search begins.
Vision
A trusted discovery engine for the ultrarunning world.
Our long-term vision is to become the place where the ultrarunning community can point and say: you need to look at this. A remarkable race. A runner whose story goes far beyond a finish time. A volunteer who quietly held an event together. A crew, family, town, tradition, failure, comeback, photograph, film, or moment that reveals something worth preserving.
As the platform develops, SearchForEpic.com will become the primary intake portal for those submissions. The editorial work that grows from them may be researched, developed, and published through Epic Ultras and its related media properties.
Philosophy
Curiosity over convention. Truth over polish. People over performance.
Epic is earned.
Popularity does not make something epic. Neither does a buckle, a podium, a distance, or a marketing claim by itself.
No canned hero stories.
We are interested in the complicated version: failure, recovery, obsession, humor, relationships, scars, aging, grief, spirituality, community, and transformation.
No arrival.
One extraordinary performance does not permanently define a person. The search stays open because people, races, and meaning keep evolving.
The Search Is Bigger Than Two Questions
Races and runners are the center. The entire community is part of the story.
The two driving questions remain simple: what makes an ultra truly epic, and what makes an ultrarunner truly epic? But ultrarunning has never belonged only to the person wearing the bib or the person directing the race.
Crews, pacers, volunteers, medical teams, photographers, writers, families, communities, longtime characters, and the people whose most meaningful race ended in a DNF can all reveal something essential about the sport. If it helps answer the deeper question, it belongs in the search.
Coming Next
The submission portal is being built.
SearchForEpic.com will become the dedicated place to submit races, runners, stories, photographs, video, people, traditions, and ideas for editorial consideration by Epic Ultras.
For now, the land is claimed. The search is already underway.
